Overview

  • Raigad district has banned all heavy vehicles on the Borghat/Bhor Ghat stretch of the old Mumbai–Pune road with immediate effect and until further orders under Motor Vehicles Act Sections 115 and 116.
  • The ghat order follows police recommendations citing frequent mishaps, including at least 18 heavy-vehicle accidents since 2021, with the expressway flagged as the safer alternative route.
  • On NH-66, vehicles of 16 tonnes and above are barred during set periods for the festival: Aug 23–28, Aug 31, Sept 2, and Sept 6–7, with interim windows when movement is allowed, under Section 155.
  • Exemptions cover essential goods, medical supplies, perishables, import–export cargo between JNPA and Jaigad, and highway works, with entry permits issued by transport authorities or highway police and scope for local relaxation.
  • Deputy CM Eknath Shinde announced toll waivers from Aug 23 to Sept 8 for Konkan-bound vehicles and ST buses using special “Ganeshotsav 2025 – Konkan Darshan” passes distributed by RTOs and police for round trips.
