Maharashtra Reschedules Mumbai Eid-e-Milad Holiday to Sept. 8

Officials cite crowd management needs during Anant Chaturdashi.

  • The change covers only Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts, while the rest of Maharashtra will observe the holiday on Sept. 5 as planned.
  • The government issued the order in the Governor’s name using Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
  • Deputy Secretary Dilip Deshpande signed the notification and directed immediate implementation by administrative departments and district authorities.
  • Representatives of Muslim organisations had agreed on Aug. 21 to hold the Eid-e-Milad procession on Sept. 8 as a goodwill measure to ease congestion.
  • For Ganesh Visarjan on Sept. 6, the BMC has arranged 70 natural immersion sites and about 290 artificial ponds across Mumbai.
