Maharashtra Rains: 10 Dead, 11,800 Evacuated as IMD Alerts Continue

Large releases from the Jayakwadi dam swelled the Godavari, forcing relocations across Marathwada.

Overview

  • IMD warned of very heavy rain for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar and other coastal and ghat districts through September 30, even as the low‑pressure area weakens.
  • Officials reported 10 fatalities over the past day across Nashik, Dharashiv, Ahilyanagar, Jalna and Yavatmal, with widespread crop and infrastructure damage in Marathwada.
  • More than 11,800 people were moved to safety, including about 7,000 from Paithan, as Jayakwadi opened all 27 gates with discharges reported between 2.26 and 2.92 lakh cusecs.
  • Sixteen NDRF teams were deployed statewide with additional teams on standby, and the state announced ₹10,000 immediate aid for inundated households and released ₹2,000 crore for compensation.
  • Mumbai and the wider MMR recorded localized totals above 100 mm, but civic officials reported limited major disruption with rail and road services largely operational.
