Maharashtra Panel Kicks Off Three-Language Policy Review With Statewide Consultations

The expert panel will collect statewide input through digital surveys followed by public meetings before issuing recommendations on December 5.

Overview

  • The eight-member committee led by Dr Narendra Jadhav held its first meeting at Mantralaya and set a consultative roadmap under NEP 2020.
  • A dedicated website will go live within about two weeks to gather public responses through two questionnaires, with a special cell tracking inputs in real time.
  • Day-long regional consultations are scheduled from October 8 to late November in Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Pune, Solapur and Mumbai.
  • Outreach will include meetings with teachers, parents, academics, language activists and political leaders such as Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray.
  • The panel will review other states’ models, weigh options for when to start a third language, and deliver its report to the government by December 5.
