Maharashtra Overhauls One-Time Vehicle Tax Structure

The revision shifts goods carrier taxation from weight to price to boost revenue through standardized levies

Overview

  • The state has raised the one-time tax cap to ₹30 lakh from ₹20 lakh, adding at least ₹10 lakh in levies for vehicles priced above ₹20 lakh.
  • One-time tax rates for petrol cars rise to 11% for under ₹10 lakh, 12% for ₹10–20 lakh and 13% above ₹20 lakh, with diesel vehicles set at 13%, 14% and 15%.
  • Vehicles running on compressed natural gas or liquefied natural gas will face an additional 1% in one-time tax across all price tiers.
  • Imported and corporate-registered petrol and diesel vehicles now attract a flat 20% one-time tax regardless of ex-showroom price.
  • Goods carriers and light construction vehicles up to 7,500 kg are now taxed at 7% of their price and electric vehicles continue to enjoy full tax exemptions.
