Maharashtra Orders Statewide MSME Survey and Makes MAITRI Mandatory

The move aims to convert large investment inflows into operational industries and jobs by tightening approvals to speed clearance for investors.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on July 17 ordered a comprehensive survey of micro, small and medium enterprises to map their current status, production capacity, workforce and needs as the foundation for stronger support.
  • He directed the Industries Department to draft detailed, sector-specific policies that consult experts and entrepreneurs and target high-investment, high-employment sectors such as chemicals, media/arenas and bioplastics.
  • The MAITRI portal will be made mandatory for all industry approvals and a dedicated investor call centre will be set up with AI analysis of recorded calls to identify recurring problems and speed grievance resolution.
  • Fadnavis instructed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to rationalize industrial land allocation based on demand and feasibility and to factor chemical parks and convention-centre facilitation into planning.
  • Execution now rests with the Industries Department and MIDC, so the next milestones to watch are the MSME survey results, draft sector policies, the mandatory MAITRI rollout and the investor helpline implementation, which will show whether the measures translate into jobs and operational projects.
