Overview
- After a Nov. 11 meeting at Mantralaya, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik directed agencies to immediately submit a proposal for an AI-driven toll system at Mumbai’s Dahisar entry point.
- The proposed setup would use camera-based number-plate recognition and real-time payment verification to speed tolling and reduce queues, subject to approval and implementation.
- A previously planned relocation of the toll plaza initiated under Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has been put on hold following resident objections, so the current site will be retained for now.
- Officials were also told to accelerate corridor works, including road widening between the Delhi Darbar Hotel and the toll plaza and improved traffic management near Penkar Phata.
- Senior representatives from the police, NHAI, BMC, Mira-Bhayander authorities, and MEP Infrastructure attended, and a unified payment option covering two toll points at one location was suggested.
