  • The state government has stayed all construction on the Rs 20-crore aspirational toilets project in South Mumbai until the investigation concludes.
  • Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar directed the BMC commissioner to lead the inquiry into compliance with pedestrian, planning and heritage regulations.
  • Work had already begun at five of the 14 proposed sites on public footpaths within UNESCO-recognized Colaba and Fort precincts.
  • Industries Minister Uday Samant confirmed that no further installations will proceed and that disciplinary action will follow the inquiry’s findings.
