Maharashtra Opens Dharavi Experience Centre To Preview Redevelopment

Officials say the interactive facility will build trust by letting residents walk through sample flats, view housing, transport and river-rejuvenation plans

Overview

  • The Experience Centre was opened on Friday, October 2, 2026 and occupies about 22,500 square feet with life-size furnished and unfurnished 350‑ and 500‑sq‑ft model flats and a detailed 3D walkthrough.
  • State leader Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the centre and presented a song and a coffee-table book as part of the launch to showcase Dharavi’s culture and economy.
  • The government says the centre will give residents direct information on surveys, eligibility and rehabilitation processes and let people see how free 350‑sq‑ft tenements for eligible holders would be laid out.
  • Exhibits at the centre highlight proposed infrastructure and environmental work, including a Multimodal Transport Hub, Mithi River rejuvenation, a 3.3‑km riverfront and plans to plant about 40,000 trees.
  • The redevelopment is to be executed by Adani Navbharat Developers working with the Dharavi Redevelopment Project/SRA under an 80/20 private‑public stake structure, a setup that the government presents as a focus for transparency and that is likely to shape scrutiny of the project going forward.
