Overview

  • The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) suspended the licences of two Sassoon General Hospital doctors, Dr. Ajay Taware and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, for alleged evidence tampering in the 2023 Pune Porsche crash case.
  • Both doctors are accused of swapping the underage driver's blood sample with his mother’s to conceal alcohol consumption following the fatal crash that killed two IT professionals.
  • The disciplinary action follows the MMC’s suo motu cognisance of the case, based on reports from investigative committees and Pune Police, with the doctors barred from practicing until the inquiry concludes.
  • The doctors, along with a mortuary staffer also implicated in the alleged tampering, remain in judicial custody as legal proceedings continue.
  • The crash involved a 17-year-old driver, allegedly under the influence, whose actions have drawn public outrage and scrutiny over corruption and accountability in the case.
