Maharashtra Marks Shivaji Maharaj’s 395th Birth Anniversary with Grand Celebrations and Key Initiatives

The state government announced major funding for historical projects, emphasized fort conservation, and honored Shivaji’s enduring legacy with cultural events and tributes.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis allocated ₹50 crore for the third phase of Shiv Shrusti, a historical theme park in Pune, and announced plans for a grand Shivaji memorial in Agra.
Fadnavis highlighted challenges in fort restoration and unveiled efforts to nominate 12 Maharashtra forts for UNESCO World Heritage status with a presentation planned in Paris.
Statewide celebrations included padyatras, traditional performances, and cultural activities organized by local governments, schools, and civic groups to engage citizens and honor Shivaji's legacy.
The birth anniversary also reignited the ongoing debate over Shivaji’s birthdate, with differing observances on February 19 and the Hindu calendar’s Phalgun tithi.
