Overview

  • The Maharashtra Fisheries Department directed that all centrally sponsored, state-subsidised fisheries projects purchase feed exclusively from government-approved and state-registered manufacturers.
  • Fish feed must bear certification from FSSAI, ISI or BIS and clearly display nutritional analysis along with production and expiry dates.
  • Suppliers are required to maintain GST registration, issue official tax invoices, use sealed, hygienic packaging and reliable dry transport, and keep records of purchasing farmers.
  • Complaints over feed quality will be addressed immediately to support schemes such as fish seed production, cage culture, biofloc systems and stocking programs.
  • Enhanced coastal patrols and drone surveillance have coincided with a 3,000-metric-tonne increase in marine fish production.
