The order implements a 2025 EV policy promise through a formal notification following months of confusion over a policy resolution.

Overview

  • An Urban Development Department notification issued on August 21 exempts electric four-wheelers (M1) and electric buses (M3, M4) at the Shivaji Nagar and Gavan toll plazas on the sea bridge.
  • The exemption is issued under the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1958, partially modifying a January 31 order that had levied tolls on all vehicle categories.
  • Waivers on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway and the Samruddhi Expressway are not yet operational, with toll operators awaiting formal instructions.
  • MSRDC earlier confirmed that contractors would continue collections until notifications were issued, and EV motorists reported paying tolls despite the May government resolution.
  • The broader EV Policy 2025 also envisages a 50% toll discount for electric four-wheelers on Public Works Department highways to spur cleaner transport.
