Overview
- Effective immediately, citizens and businesses in Mumbai and its suburbs can adjudicate and register documents at any city stamp office, according to a gazette notice and the revenue minister.
- The change covers property agreements, lease agreements, inheritance deeds and related paperwork previously tied to a local office.
- Designated locations include Borivali, Kurla, Andheri, Mumbai City and the main office near the Old Custom House housing the Stamp District Collector (Enforcement 1 and 2).
- The move follows a recent 'one district one registration' rollout, with the department saying a statewide 'one state one registration' is under consideration.
- Separately, land measurement cases are targeted for resolution within 30 days, with about 150 private surveyors to be appointed per district and a 'measurement first' approach to reduce disputes.
