Maharashtra Launches Five-Point MSRTC Overhaul as Telangana Moves on Bus Safety and Depot Fixes

Daily evaluations paired with a station-wise timetable from January 1 set strict accountability across MSRTC depots, divisions and regions.

Overview

  • MSRTC’s “Panchsutri” mandates daily review meetings at 10 am (depot), 11 am (division) and 12 noon (region), with a 4–6 pm window to plan next-day operations for demand spikes and special events.
  • Drivers will be measured on KPTL fuel-efficiency targets and conductors on CPKM revenue goals, with counselling, training or duty changes for persistent underperformance.
  • All long-distance schedules are being scientifically reassessed, only centrally approved routes will run, and a station-wise timetable takes effect on January 1 with punctuality and regularity as priorities.
  • Passenger-facing changes include cleaner stations with toilets checked at least three times a day, prompt delay or cancellation updates, alternative arrangements and faster complaint resolution.
  • In Telangana, a special committee will examine loss-making depots such as Tandur, Vikarabad, BHEL, Miyapur, Kushaiguda, Dilsukhnagar and Hakimpet, while first-phase driver-monitoring rolls out on Lahari, Rajdhani and Garuda buses alongside a two-driver rule on hire buses and preparations for phased delivery of 2,000 electric buses under the PM E-Drive scheme.
