Maharashtra Keeps Ladki Bahin Stipend, Launches Village Drive to Create ‘Lakhpati Didis’

The new village campaign links the monthly stipend to credit access to move beneficiaries into self-employment.

  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the Rs 1,500-a-month Ladki Bahin cash transfer will continue and urged women not to believe claims it would be scrapped.
  • He launched the Mukhyamantri Samruddha Panchayat Raj Abhiyan at Kingaon in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to ensure every village accesses central and state schemes.
  • Women-led credit societies will be formed in villages, and eligible beneficiaries can obtain interest-free loans of Rs 1 lakh through District Cooperative Banks.
  • The state set a goal to enable one crore women to become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ earning at least Rs 1 lakh a year through 17 supported business models.
  • The campaign will cover 28,000 gram panchayats and 40,000 villages, offer Rs 250 crore in awards to top performers, and integrate MGNREGA for works like Anganwadis, roads and water tanks.
