Maharashtra Implements Tailored Reservation Rosters in Eight Tribal-Dominated Districts

A cabinet subcommittee has set quotas guaranteeing a 10% SEBC share under the SEBC Act 2024 for upcoming Group C and D recruitment.

Overview

  • The revised rosters have been formally put into effect across Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Palghar, Yavatmal, Raigad, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts.
  • Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule led the cabinet subcommittee that included ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Manikrao Kokate, Dadaji Bhuse, Atul Save and Dr. Ashok Uike.
  • The General Administration Department based the district-specific quotas on detailed socio-educational and demographic data to boost representation of backward and tribal communities.
  • Under the SEBC Act 2024, a fixed 10% reservation has been carved out for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes in direct recruitments and educational admissions.
  • Each roster prescribes proportional percentages for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Denotified Tribes, Nomadic Tribes, Special Backward Class, OBC, SEBC, EWS and open category posts.
