Overview

  • The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme was launched in August 2024 to provide ₹1,500 monthly to economically eligible women aged 21–65.
  • A review of nearly 200,000 applications revealed 2,289 female government employees wrongly enrolled and received a total of about ₹3.58 crore.
  • Payments to these ineligible staff were halted in early 2025 and benefits were also suspended for those double-claiming from another state aid programme.
  • The government has directed departments to initiate recovery proceedings and urged remaining ineligible beneficiaries to return funds voluntarily.
  • Officials say UID-based digital verification and regular beneficiary audits will continue to prevent future misuse and relieve budgetary strain.
