Maharashtra Forms SIT to Probe Fake Teacher ID Scam

Officers have launched an indefinite strike accusing authorities of unfair treatment after 16 senior officers were arrested.

  • The three-member team led by Pune Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar will audit all aided-school recruitments since 2012 and submit its report within three months.
  • At least 16 individuals, including senior education officers, school principals and institution heads, have been arrested and face FIRs under charges such as cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust.
  • More than 400 senior officials from the state’s school education department have begun an indefinite strike and allege arrests were made without proper inquiry.
  • Investigators found that fake Shalarth IDs were created to siphon salaries for at least 580 nonexistent teachers and non-teaching staff in Nagpur division.
  • Pay Superintendent Nilesh Waghmare, the main accused in the scam, remains absconding despite an ongoing manhunt.
