Overview

  • State government confirmed the Kumbh Mela will run from October 31, 2026 to July 24, 2028, highlighting key events like Nagar Pradakshina on July 29, 2027 and three ‘Amrut Snan’ dates in August and September 2027.
  • Tenders worth Rs 4,000 crore have been issued and another Rs 2,000 crore package is in the pipeline to fund sewage treatment plants, road networks and amenities for the 13 main Akharas.
  • Girish Mahajan has been named Kumbh Minister to lead the preparations while the Nashik district guardian minister post remains unresolved amid coalition negotiations.
  • To prevent overcrowding at narrow sites like Kushavart Kund, officials plan an extended schedule and construction of an alternative ghat for safer crowd dispersal.
  • Environmental projects, including sewage treatment and water purification schemes, are prioritised to maintain uninterrupted, clean flow in the Godavari River during and after the Mela.
