Overview

• The fleet grew from 21 vans inaugurated on January 27 by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to 59 units now operating statewide.
• Deployments include Mumbai’s Chembur, Bandra, Kandivali, Byculla, Nagpada and the Railway Commissionerate, with additional vans in Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, Thane, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Amravati.
• The vehicles carry bio-chemical, chemical, biological, physical and digital toolkits to collect evidence directly at crime scenes, reducing dependence on eyewitness accounts.
• Authorities report 3,432 pieces of evidence collected statewide, including 1,555 under Mumbai’s Directorate, with district tallies such as Nagpur 781, Nashik 817, Amravati 112 and Pune 35.
• The programme is overseen by Sanjay Kumar Verma and Dr Vijay Thakre, with officials crediting the vans for greater transparency and quicker establishment of culpability based on official data.
