Maharashtra Cyber Police has directed ticketing platforms like BookMyShow to implement name-based ticketing for high-demand events to combat black marketing and scalping.
Starting December 15, tickets must include the attendee’s name and be verified with government-issued ID at event entry.
Additional measures include AI firewalls to block bots, dynamic QR codes, and tracking suspicious purchase patterns for law enforcement reporting.
On-ground enforcement will involve undercover personnel, random ID checks, and attendee interviews to detect scalping and unauthorized resale.
The directives follow complaints about ticket scalping for events like Coldplay's Mumbai concert, which is under investigation by Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing.
