Overview

  • On July 18, the Legislative Council approved a motion to extend the Privileges Committee’s deadline until the last day of the upcoming session to file its report on Kunal Kamra and Sushma Andhare
  • The inquiry follows BJP MLC Pravin Darekar’s breach notice accusing Kamra of insulting Deputy CM Eknath Shinde during a parody of ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ at a Mumbai comedy club
  • Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sushma Andhare was also issued a show-cause notice for defending Kamra’s remarks but neither notice could be delivered due to incomplete address details
  • Kamra’s performance led Shiv Sena activists, led by functionary Rahul Kanal, to ransack the venue and prompted the Khar police to register an FIR for alleged defamation
  • Kamra has not responded to Mumbai summonses and continues to benefit from interim anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court along with a Bombay High Court stay on his arrest
