Overview

  • The state withdrew its unconditional 10% Economically Weaker Section reservation in private medical colleges to preserve merit-based seats.
  • The revised policy mandates additional intake approvals from the central government or relevant councils before applying the EWS quota in MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS and BUMS courses.
  • For other medical and allied courses, the 10% reservation will apply to existing seats.
  • Parents, activists and the Association of Private Medical Colleges had threatened legal action and staged protests against the brochure notice issued July 23.
  • Stakeholders including Sudha Shenoy and Brijesh Sutaria praised the move as balancing social justice goals with admission transparency.
