Maharashtra Clears Rs 75,000-Crore Urban Transport Push as Madhya Pradesh Ups Water and Road Outlays

Both cabinets shifted plans toward execution through state guarantees, loan routes, plus HAM contracts.

Overview

  • Maharashtra approved Mumbai Metro Line-11 from Wadala to the Gateway of India with a Rs 23,487.51 crore outlay, with the state taking loan-repayment responsibility and seeking JICA support alongside central equity and subordinate debt.
  • The cabinet sanctioned Rs 4,826 crore to procure 238 AC suburban trains under MUTP-3/3A and endorsed MUTP-3B corridors spanning 136.652 km at Rs 14,907.47 crore with a 50% state share.
  • PuneLonavala third and fourth lines were cleared at Rs 5,100 crore, with cost sharing between the Centre and state and contributions from PMC, PCMC and PMRDA, aiming to relieve a corridor running at about 119% capacity.
  • Loan and guarantee approvals covered Thane Circular Metro, multiple Pune Metro extensions and Nagpur Metro Phase II, while Pune’s SwargateKatraj corridor gained two new stations and a Katraj shift for an added Rs 683.11 crore.
  • Madhya Pradesh raised revised Jal Jeevan Mission costs to Rs 9,026.97 crore and will absorb the Rs 2,813.21 crore increase to protect tap-water coverage for about seven lakh rural families, alongside approvals for the IndoreUjjain greenfield road (Rs 2,935.15 crore), NarmadapuramTimarni upgrade (Rs 972.16 crore) and Ujjain’s Harifatak overbridge (Rs 371.11 crore) for Simhastha 2028.
