Overview
- The Public Works Department, which issued a government resolution Wednesday, approved a revised alignment that adds about 54 km to the corridor.
- The state now pegs the project cost at about Rs 1 lakh crore, up from an earlier estimate near Rs 80,000 crore.
- The new path brings the road through 13 districts, including a 40 km stretch in Satara, with the route running from Wardha to Sindhudurg.
- MSRDC says land acquisition for the changed sections can start now, with roughly 8,760 hectares to be acquired and joint measurements done in over one-third of affected villages.
- This redesign follows farmer protests that prompted a rollback of land notices in October 2024, after which MSRDC studied alternatives in August 2025 using field checks and IRC guidance.
