• Announcing the plan at Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University's convocation in Nanded, Chandrakant Patil set a deadline to fill 5,500 assistant professor posts in senior colleges before March 2026.
• The government also approved 2,900 non-teaching posts to strengthen college operations.
• Both the Finance and Planning departments have consented to the recruitment drive, and a government resolution will be issued to launch the process.
• Patil said an earlier sanction to hire 700 assistant professors in universities stalled after then Governor C P Radhakrishnan suggested a different method, and he will take up the matter with new Governor Acharya Devvrat.
• Linking the push to internationalisation, Patil noted 4,000 students from 65 countries enrolled through an agency this year, with most choosing Pune and Mumbai.
