Maharashtra Clears 30-Year Re 1 Lease of Bandra Plot to Tirumala Trust

Finance officials had flagged unmet conditions from a 2019 Bandra allotment.

Overview

  • The Cabinet approved leasing 395 sq metres in Bandra’s Kherwadi to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam for 30 years at a token rent of Re 1 per year.
  • The site is designated for a parking area, an information centre and administrative offices serving devotees, with usage limited to state-approved purposes.
  • Under the terms, construction must be completed within three years and 2,000 sq ft of fully furnished space must be handed to the Mumbai Suburban district collector for government use.
  • The land stays under state ownership, the lease requires renewal after 30 years, and delays or deviations can invite action including cancellation.
  • This is a second Bandra parcel opposite a 648 sq metre plot allotted in 2019, as the trust also advances a temple project on allotted land in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai.
