Maharashtra Civic Polls: BMC, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Others Finalize Ward Reservations

The draws open short objection windows that will shape candidate lists before the civic polls.

Overview

  • BMC reserved 114 of 227 wards for women and allotted 15 SC, 2 ST and 61 OBC wards under the state’s new rotation rules, with the draft list due November 14, objections till November 20 and the final notification on November 28.
  • PMC set reservations for 165 seats with 83 for women and category allocations of 22 SC, 44 OBC and 2 ST, following a draw overseen by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram.
  • PCMC completed a four-phase draw for 128 seats, reserving 64 for women, 20 for SC (10 women), 3 for ST (2 women) and 34 for OBC (17 women).
  • Other corporations, including Mira-Bhayander (48 of 95 seats for women), Navi Mumbai (at least 56 of 111 seats for women) and Thane (66 of 131 seats for women), conducted public lotteries with specified objection periods.
  • Several high-profile Mumbai incumbents lost their traditional wards to new reservations, and parties are recalibrating candidate plans as the State Election Commission moves toward concluding local body polls by January 31, 2026 per the Supreme Court directive.
