Overview

  • The cancellations cover schemes approved between 2020 and 2023, including minor irrigation projects, seepage dams, percolation tanks and storage pond repairs.
  • The scrapped initiatives, valued at ₹19,721 crore, were mainly concentrated in Western Maharashtra and Vidarbha constituencies held by opposition leaders.
  • Government officials cited land acquisition delays, local opposition, contractor non-cooperation and flawed feasibility surveys as reasons for the revocations.
  • Tenders for the cancelled projects will be called off as the state reallocates resources to viable new development schemes.
  • Opposition parties and activists warn that the decision could become a key political issue before local body elections later this year.
