Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Cancer-Care Policy, CM-Led Foundation to Drive Three-Tier Network

The decision responds to an 11% rise in cases by seeding a ₹100 crore coordinator for 18 centres.

Overview

  • Eight L2 and nine L3 hospitals are designated across the state, with Tata Memorial Hospital set as the apex L1 centre.
  • The state earmarked ₹1,529.38 crore for L2 centres and ₹147.70 crore for L3 centres to strengthen services.
  • The new MAHACARE Foundation will be chaired by the chief minister, receive an initial ₹100 crore, and get 20% of Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana fees.
  • Procurement and management at L3 centres will follow a PPP model, except at Shirdi Saibaba Sansthan Hospital, which will fund itself.
  • A central command-and-control centre will coordinate the network, while L2 hubs will also run postgraduate and super-specialty oncology programs.
