Overview
- A traffic notification issued Monday, October 26 by Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Pravin Salunkhe orders that all goods‑carrying vehicles be barred from the 13.3 km Missing Link from November 1.
- The ban covers all freight vehicles including light commercial vans such as pickup trucks and Tata Ace and also bars vehicles carrying flammable, explosive or other hazardous materials.
- Private cars and permitted passenger vehicles may use the Missing Link under set speed limits of 100 km/h for light motor vehicles and 80 km/h for passenger buses with a 5% tolerance in enforcement.
- Authorities said the measure responds to tunnel‑safety and technical concerns after collisions on the corridor and warned police will register cases and penalise drivers who enter the restricted route; banned vehicles must use the original expressway alignment.
- The Missing Link shortens the Mumbai–Pune route by about 6 km and cuts travel time by roughly 20–30 minutes, so the rule will keep faster passenger traffic on the new corridor while shifting freight back to the older ghat alignment until further orders.
