Maharashtra ATS Uncovers Alleged ISIS Network in Thane Raids

Investigators registered two FIRs following raids that uncovered weapons, extremist documents, phones now undergoing forensic analysis.

Overview

  • The Maharashtra ATS and Thane Rural Police raided 22 sites in Padgha and Borivali on June 1–2, detaining around 20 individuals linked to former SIMI member Saquib Nachan.
  • Officers seized 19 mobile phones, swords, knives, property documents and printed material promoting radical ideologies, all now under forensic examination.
  • Following the searches, the ATS filed two FIRs under the Arms Act over the seizure of a chopper and a sword from suspects’ premises.
  • Preliminary findings indicate that suspects had been assigned ministerial-style roles to establish a parallel governance structure guided by Sharia law.
  • Authorities continue to question detainees to probe potential international extremist links and thwart plans for subversive activities.
