Maharashtra Approves ₹2,000-Crore HUDCO Loan, Extends Discounted Power for Lift Irrigation

State guarantees aim to unlock funding for stalled urban projects.

  • Cabinet cleared first-phase borrowing of ₹2,000 crore from HUDCO under the Maharashtra Urban Infrastructure Development Loan Scheme.
  • Allocations include ₹822.22 crore for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar water supply, ₹268.84 crore for four NMRDA sewage projects in Nagpur, and ₹116.28 crore for Mira-Bhayandar water works.
  • The facility is structured to keep AMRUT 2.0 and Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 projects on schedule by helping financially weak civic bodies raise their share.
  • Concessional electricity for lift irrigation will continue until March 31, 2027 at ₹1.16 per unit for high-tension schemes and ₹1 per unit for low-tension schemes, with Mahavitaran to be compensated ₹886.15 crore in 2025–26 and ₹872.23 crore in 2026–27.
  • The power relief covers 1,789 lift irrigation schemes and is expected to benefit over one million farmers, with additional HUDCO-backed projects to be placed before the cabinet in the coming weeks.
