Maharashtra Announces Immediate Relief Package for Flood-Hit Districts

The state released ₹2,215 crore from its disaster fund and requested additional central assistance as verification and payouts get underway.

  • Officials reported at least nine deaths and damage to roughly 50 lakh hectares of farmland after sustained rains since September 20 across 31 districts, with the worst impact in Marathwada.
  • Families of those who died in the floods will receive ₹4 lakh each under the state’s relief measures.
  • Farmers will be paid ₹8,500 per hectare for rainfed crops, ₹17,000 for irrigated crops, and ₹22,500 for perennial crops, with ₹18,000 per hectare for repairable washed-away land and ₹5,000–₹47,000 per hectare for non-restorable land.
  • Livestock compensation is set at ₹37,500 per milch animal, ₹32,000 per draught animal, and ₹20,000 per small animal, with caps of three large and 30 small animals per family, plus ₹100 per poultry bird up to ₹10,000 and up to ₹3,000 for damaged cattle sheds.
  • Housing assistance includes ₹8,000 for destroyed huts and up to ₹12,000 for fully collapsed pucca houses, with district administrations tasked to expedite assessments and disbursals.
