Maha-Metro initiates tenders for Pune Metro Phase II pending Union approval

Design contracts for 14 elevated stations on the Kharadi–Khadakwasla line have been floated ahead of final central clearance.

Under Phase 2, 28 elevated stations are planned. Maha-Metro has divided the project into two parts and invited tenders in phases. (HT)

Overview

  • The Maharashtra government approved the 31.64 km Phase II expansion in October and set its ₹9,897.19 crore budget before submitting it to the Union Cabinet in March.
  • Phase II will add 28 elevated stations across two corridors: Kharadi to Khadakwasla via Hadapsar and Swargate, and Nal Stop to Manikbaug via Warje.
  • Maha-Metro floated tenders in May for detailed design services at 14 elevated stations on the Kharadi–Khadakwasla route to fast-track project commencement post-approval.
  • Work on the SwargateKatraj underground extension is scheduled to start in July following an April tender revision, with five stations added and an extra ₹683 crore funded by Maharashtra.
  • Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol met Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on May 30 to urge expedited cabinet clearance of key Metro extensions.
