Maha-Metro, IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub Sign First Cybersecurity Pact for Pune and Nagpur Metros

The pact launches site audits with continuous monitoring to align critical rail systems to ISO 27001, NIST, CERT-In.

Overview

  • The MoU was signed on September 26 in Nagpur by Maha-Metro managing director Shravan Hardikar and C3iHub CEO Dr Tanima Hazra, marking IIT Kanpur’s first tie-up with a metro operator.
  • The collaboration covers vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, a policy and governance framework, a risk‑mitigation roadmap, and real‑time security monitoring.
  • Priority protections target operations control, signalling, telecom, power supply, automatic fare collection, building and tunnel management, and onboard train systems.
  • Initial evaluations will be conducted at key hubs in both cities, including Nagpur’s Zero Mile OCC and Hingna Depot and Pune’s OCC and Range Hills Depot, with additional stations identified for review.
  • Maha-Metro cites upcoming driverless operations in Pune and plans for Thane as reasons to accelerate cyber hardening, and officials say other metro systems are exploring similar steps.
