Maha-Metro, IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub Seal Cybersecurity Pact for Pune and Nagpur Metros

Next steps focus on site evaluations with a governance roadmap to meet ISO/IEC 27001:2022, NIST, CERT-In guidance.

Overview

  • Signed on September 26 in Nagpur, the MoU pairs Maha-Metro MD Shravan Hardikar with C3iHub CEO Dr. Tanima Hazra in IIT Kanpur’s first collaboration with an Indian metro operator.
  • The program launches vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, a policy and governance framework, a risk‑mitigation roadmap, and continuous security monitoring with protections for databases, networks, firewalls and isolated systems.
  • It targets core operational domains including operations control, signalling, telecom, power supply, automatic fare collection, building and tunnel management, and onboard equipment.
  • Security evaluations will be conducted at key locations in Pune and Nagpur, including depots and operations control centres, with specific hubs identified for review.
  • The push reflects plans for technology-led, driverless operations on proposed routes in Pune and Thane, and reporting notes other metro systems are exploring similar cybersecurity measures.
