Magnitude 5.5–5.6 Quake in Chile’s Coquimbo Region Shakes Mendoza With No Tsunami Threat

  • SHOA said the event did not meet conditions to generate a tsunami on Chile’s coast, and Senapred reported no damage, casualties or basic service interruptions.
  • In Argentina, the shaking was strongly felt across Greater Mendoza, where offices activated evacuation protocols and emergency teams began inspections.
  • Peru recorded separate quakes the same day, including a magnitude 3.5 near Chilca in Lima at 03:30 and a magnitude 4.2 near Punta de Bombón in Arequipa at 19:05, according to the IGP.
