Magnitude 5.0 Quake Off Salaverry Shakes Northern Peru

Officials report no damage, urging residents to prepare for possible aftershocks.

  • The IGP reported a magnitude 5.0 earthquake at 8:42 a.m. local time on November 9 with an epicenter 77 km southwest of Salaverry, La Libertad, at a depth of 35 km (report IGP/CENSIS/RS 2025-0737).
  • Shaking reached Modified Mercalli intensity III–IV in Salaverry, and authorities said no injuries or material damage had been recorded.
  • Earlier the same day, a magnitude 3.5 tremor struck at 1:35 a.m. with an epicenter 22 km south of Lima at a depth of 49 km, according to the IGP.
