  • At 12:09:33 IST on August 18, the National Center for Seismology recorded a magnitude 4.3 quake at 26.28° N, 92.71° E with a depth of 35 kilometers near Nagaon district.
  • The tremor was felt about 40 kilometers from Tezpur, with residents reporting ground shaking.
  • Authorities have reported no casualties following the shallow earthquake.
  • The Assam quake follows a magnitude 3.1 event in Rajasthan’s Churu area on August 17 and joins other shallow quakes earlier this summer in Nepal and Assam’s Karbi Anglong.
  • The NCS and National Disaster Management Authority are monitoring for aftershocks and urging continued preparedness.
