Overview

  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closed on August 4, 2025, for the most extensive refurbishment since its 1998 debut and will stay closed until a 2026 relaunch.
  • Imagineers will replace fixed, car-mounted blasters with handheld laser units, add color-coded dynamic targets and install vehicle screens for real-time score tracking.
  • A robot character named Buddy will guide guests through safety announcements and provide an onboard tutorial for the new laser blasters.
  • The overhaul is part of Disney’s multi-year strategy to modernize classic Tomorrowland attractions and expand guest engagement.
  • Unlike Tokyo and Hong Kong Disneyland, which retired their Buzz Lightyear rides permanently, Walt Disney World is opting to update its version.
