Magdeburg Begins Demolition of Ring Bridge Over Halberstädter Straße

Detours with temporary spans keep traffic moving during the staged teardown.

Overview

  • City crews started removing the deteriorated span with a protective fall bed, followed by demolition of the northern sections and pillars, then the areas over Hellestraße, with progress viewable via a live camera.
  • Demolition is slated to run through December 12, according to the city’s announced schedule.
  • Two prefabricated temporary bridges at Brenneckestraße will be craned into place, with brief ramp closures of up to two days per bridge during installation.
  • The Brenneckestraße temporary bridges are scheduled to open on December 23, restoring traffic beneath the Ring bridges at that location.
  • Construction of a temporary bridge over Halberstädter Straße is planned to begin on January 5, 2026, with current detours signed from A2 and A14 and the Halberstädter on- and off-ramps remaining usable during demolition.
