Maersk and Nike Launch Green Methanol-Powered Vessel at Port of LA

The Alette Maersk, capable of reducing CO2 emissions by 280 tons per day, marks a significant step in sustainable shipping.

The vessel, named after A. P. Moller’s great-granddaughter, completed its maiden voyage from Xiamen to Los Angeles.
Maersk aims to have 25% of its cargo transported on low-emission vessels by 2030, with a goal of net-zero emissions by 2040.
Nike, a long-time Maersk partner, has been instrumental in advancing the use of ocean biofuels.
The Alette is the fifth methanol-enabled ship in Maersk’s fleet, with 20 more on order.
Agricultural waste and renewable energy are used to produce the green methanol powering the vessel.
