Overview
- The Ayuntamiento confirmed a full closure of the tunnel connecting the M‑30 to the A‑5 from August 3 to August 24 to carry out the penultimate connection works.
- Crews will first demolish the concrete slab of the existing M‑30 exit ramp, then install 14 heavy 30‑metre beams using a large crane during four consecutive nights from August 10 to August 13.
- During the closure vehicles will not be able to travel from the M‑30 toward the A‑5 at the Casa de Campo junction and the city has published alternative long‑distance and local routes to reduce disruption.
- The city says the work is the near‑final step before civil completion in September and a planned opening of the new subterrestrial tunnel by the end of the year, which will allow surface urbanization for the 3.2 km Paseo Verde del Suroeste.
- Once finished the project aims to bury the A‑5, reconnect neighborhoods separated since 1968 and cut surface traffic by about 90 percent, which could shrink daily vehicle crossings and lower local pollution.
