Overview
- The Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office has formally requested courts to investigate and impute former PSOE figure Leire Díez and businessman Javier Pérez Dolset for allegedly offering professional favors to prosecutors José Grinda and Ignacio Stampa in exchange for sensitive information.
- José Grinda’s complaint recounts that on February 27 a journalist intermediary showed him a written offer promising a foreign posting and civil liability compensation if he disclosed secrets and archived seven high-profile anticorruption cases.
- Ignacio Stampa provided an audio recording of his May 7 meeting with Díez and Pérez Dolset, during which they sought details on anticorruption investigations and UCO inquiries while offering governmental assistance for his Justice Ministry lawsuits.
- Judge Arturo Zamarriego of Juzgado de Instrucción Nº9 refused on July 30 to consolidate the new bribery allegations with his ongoing cohecho and influence-peddling probe into Díez and returned the Fiscalía’s denuncia.
- The prosecutor’s office has appealed Zamarriego’s decision and asked that Stampa’s recording and its transcript be incorporated into the case file to sustain the investigation and determine if additional figures should be formally probed.
