Madrid Court Sentences Toño Sanchís to Two Years for Misappropriating €475,571 From Belén Esteban

The ruling says he abused a position of trust by inflating commissions over several years, with compensation to be set after prior recoveries are deducted.

Overview

  • Spain’s Audiencia Provincial de Madrid convicted Sanchís of continued misappropriation and imposed a €2,100 fine.
  • The court fixed the misappropriated amount at €475,571 and left the exact indemnity to execution of judgment, subtracting about €49,000 previously paid and money realized from an adjudicated property.
  • Judges found that between 2009 and 2015 he applied commissions above the agreed 20% under a representation contract with Esteban’s companies.
  • An earlier civil ruling ordered €388,868 and led to partial recovery, including a Villanueva del Pardillo home valued around €375,000 that carried a substantial mortgage and was later sold by Esteban.
  • Esteban said she is very happy with the decision, while Sanchís’s defense said it will appeal and noted the two‑year term may allow a non‑custodial outcome.
