Madrid Approves €1.5 Million Sponsorship for Woody Allen’s Next Film, Requiring Shoot in Region and ‘Madrid’ in Title

The regional government frames the pact as a tourism push under strict conditions covering filming, locations, festivals, promotion.

Overview

  • The contract names Película WASP A.I.E.—a grouping of Wanda Vision S.A. and Gravier Production Inc.—as beneficiary for the project provisionally titled WASP 2026.
  • The film must be shot entirely within the Comunidad de Madrid, include the word “Madrid” in its official title, and feature at least 15% of scenes outdoors in recognizable locations across the capital and another site in the region.
  • Payments are staged across three years—€150,000 in 2025, €600,000 in 2026, and €750,000 in 2027—triggered by milestones such as an international announcement, an on-set institutional visit, a world premiere at a prestigious festival, and Madrid presentations.
  • Disbursements require prior ICAA coproduction approval, and the agreement sets a completion deadline no later than December 31, 2027, following an award dated October 24 and a 26‑month term.
  • The government plans visibility at the start-of-shoot press event, during filming, and at the premiere, while citing film-induced tourism gains and Allen’s prior Spain shoots in Barcelona and San Sebastián as precedent.
