Overview

  • The suspension applies to four southern toll plazas—Kappalur, Etturavattam, Salaipudhur and Nanguneri—that were set to bar TNSTC buses from July 10.
  • A meeting convened by the Transport Secretary today aims to bridge differences over a ₹276 crore claim that includes a ₹116 crore principal plus penalties and interest.
  • Four NHAI concessionaires had filed writ petitions last year alleging TNSTC’s failure to pay toll charges and to equip its fleet with mandatory FASTag.
  • Justice Venkatesh’s initial order also directed deployment of police at the four toll booths to prevent unrest when stopping state buses.
  • The court warned that delaying a settlement could push the debt above ₹300 crore and scheduled a final review after talks conclude at the end of the month.
