Overview

  • The notices name five IAS officers plus a Joint Commissioner for alleged disobedience of an April 2024 order on temple land encroachment.
  • The contempt plea was lodged by BJP’s S. Vinoth Raghavendran over St. Joseph’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School’s occupation of land recorded under the Devanathaswamy Temple.
  • In April 2024 the High Court ordered a three-month survey of temple properties plus identification of at least 4.5 acres of replacement land for the school.
  • The HR&CE department’s counsel told the court that a proposal to allot alternative land secured by a 2019 judge’s order remained pending with the state government.
  • The bench has set a July 10 hearing to determine why the April 2024 directives were not implemented.
